Dr.Ali Akbar Salehi
(2009-2010) (2013 up to present)

Dr.Ali Akbar Salehi was born in 1949 in the holy city of Karbala and returned to IRAN at the age of nine.
He enrolled in the American university of Beirut (A.U.B) in 1969 and after 3 years received his Bachelor degree (B.S) in physics. Dr.Salehi upon Receiving a P.H.D degree in nuclear engineering from the prestigious (M.I.T) university in U.S.A returned to IRAN and after initially working in the Atomic Energy Organization of IRAN assumed a teaching position in the Sharif industrial university, Dr.Salehi in addition to being the president of the Sharif Industrial University for two terms upon founding the Imam Khomeini International University assumed the first presidency of this institute. His background also includes two terms as the deputy minister of Sciences, Research and Technology as well as membership in the academic faculty of the Sharif Industrial University energy engineering department, representative of Iran in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) between the years 1999-2004 and following that, he was the deputy of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) secretary general from 2005 to 2009.
Dr.Salehi in July of 2009, was appointed by Dr.Ahmadi Nejad, as the president and head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. This juncture of responsibility ended with his appointment as the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2010.
Upon the election of Dr.Rohani as the president, Dr.Salehi upon a decree issued, became the head of (AEOI) for the second term since August 2013.
