History

Materials and Nuclear Fuel Research School engages top class academics and scientific staff, and has extensive laboratory facilities and advanced equipment and instrumentation. It plays an important role in the provision of advisory and technical support services to the nuclear industry, and in particular, nuclear fuel cycle and material sciences. The prophecy of the institute are based on continuous effort in research, development and deployment of technological capabilities in support of Sustainable development of various nuclear fuelcycle and also supply, quality control and protection of required nuclear industry materials.                                                             

Mission and Objectives

- Access to technical knowledge of exploration, extraction and processing of uranium, thorium and other elements required for the nuclear industry of the country.

-Development and optimization of the processes and equipment required for the production of intermediate and final materials in the nuclear fuel cycle to increase the safety, process efficiency and economics of nuclear fuel production

- Localization and promotion of separation technologies and the production of stable isotopes and radioisotopes derived from nuclear fission.

- Acquisition of the technical knowledge necessary to characterize, process, stabilize and store radioactive waste produced at different stages of the fuel cycle and improvement the safety of existing processes

- Identifying, selecting, designing, constructing and controlling the quality of structural materials required for the nuclear industry and developing solutions for their protection.

- Access of technical knowledge in the field of nuclear fusion cycle

- Development and empowerment  of  human Resources, fundraising and creating the necessary infrastructures for the establishment of a technological innovation system.

- Expansion of communication for research and training  cooperation with national and international organizations and institutions.

Core Competencies and Objectives

1. Provide consulting services in the following areas:    

  •  Exploration, mineralogy, geochemistry related to deposits of uranium, thorium and other elements required by the nuclear industry
  •  Extraction and purification of uranium and thorium
  •  Production of rods and nuclear fuel
  •  Modeling and simulating of various processes of the nuclear industry
  •  The efficient synthesis of labeled compounds by stable isotope
  •  Production, separation methodsand purification of the radioisotopesresulting from fission of uranium
  •  Production and separation of radioisotopes from irradiation of stable isotopes


2. Editing Standard compilation related to produced compounds in different parts of the nuclear fuel cycle


3. Provision of nuclear and analytical laboratory services required for the nuclear industry and other domestic institutions.


4. Holding specialized training courses and seminars in the field of nuclear fuel cycle, materials science and engineering


5. Provision of engineering and technological services for materials and metallurgy in the areas of identification design and production of materials, corrosion and welding metals and quality control of manufacturing processes
