  • MR.B. Kamalvandi, AEOI spokesman and International, Legal and Parliamentary deputy in a press interview held with Iran Student News Agency (ISNA) inquiries highlighted on certain vital points concerning the IAEA reports on safeguard and JCPOA issues as well as the successful nuclear achievements as follows:
  • In response to questions regarding the agency's dual reports on safeguard and JCPOA matters Mr. Kamalvandi stated that:
  • The agency in its past 3 reports, decided to have two separate reports on JCPOA and safeguard meaning on the basis of the Comprehensive Safeguard Agreement and the Additional Protocol.
  • We reasoned that since Iran carries out the Additional Protocol based on JCPOA then the related safeguard issues could be included in the deal context, yet, the agency considered the safeguard as a separate matter despite the JCPOA on going smooth trend. Upon the clearing of the agency's ambiguities regarding the safeguard concerns, logically there is no need for issuing further reports.
  • In response to the questions forwarded regarding the agency's access to specified sites Mr. Kamalvandi responded: upon technical and political talks, it was agreed to devise a framework to respond to the agency's request and consider Iran's mutual concerns which was indicated in a recent statements.
  • One of the access demands has been satisfied and the other will be done by the end of September.
  •  The organization spokesman in answering inquiries with respect to the agency's in reports exaggeration and prevention of leaking confidential information stated that:
  • This matter is not healthy for the member states and the agency's secretariat. The member countries nuclear projects and activities should not be disseminated publically upon the issuing of the report, the media immediately gets access to it.
  • Iran clearly upon decision regarding the reduction of JCPOA commitments declared it is not binding to the ceilings specified.
  • In response to technical questions with respect to the redesign of Arak reactor, and cold testing production of UF6 enrichment, generations of 6,8 and 9 centrifuge machines the spokesman responded as:
  • Based on the recent agency's report, our heavy water production is less than 130 metric tons. Our intension amount is solely for export purposes. We benefitted from this export which mutually was beneficial for other institutes and countries for research and pharmaceutical objectives. This is not pleasant for the U.S, which tries to obstruct Iran's international market privileges. Today, we continue to produce as well as sell the products.
  • Concerning enriched UF6 production, at present, we possess more than 3 tons of enriched uranium and, currently, between 250-300KG can be produced per month which is equivalent to the pre-JCPOA production capacity.
  • The position of research and production of new centrifuges generation is satisfactory. The IR6, IR8 and IR9 are being tested properly and we are at the completion stage of research and hopefully reach the industrial scale.
  • Time is on the side and favor of the nuclear activities.
  • We are in good conditions regarding nuclear material production, research & development, exploration, excavation and construction of plants for electricity generation. For example At the time of implementation of JCPOA deal we could produce 4 tons of yellow cake annually, and now it has reached 40 tons which is a 10 times increase.
  • The work on Arak reactor redesign is going on well in spite of the difficulties. The cooperation with the Chinese, despite the heavy pressure exerted by the U.S, although is slow, but keeps on going. Next year probably the cold testing will begin, although the completion of the reactor will last 2 to 3 years.
